TIPA’s compostable food packaging is partially made from renewable resources and has the same end of life as organic waste. Once placed in a compost pile, it will fully biodegrade within months and contribute to creating a nutrient-rich compost – a remedy for eroded and degraded soils. Whereas conventional plastics typically end up in landfills, staying almost intact for hundreds of years, polluting the environment with greenhouse gases and microplastics, contributing to the climate change.
TIPA’s compostable packaging is made of fully compostable polymers that come from both bio-based sources and fossil-based sources. In contrast to conventional plastics, the polymers used to produce TIPA’s packaging are structured to fully biodegrade under composting conditions. Although the source of the material doesn’t determine its biodegradability, TIPA is committed to working towards achieving at least 75% renewable content in 2025 for all our products. You may read more about TIPA’s ambitious goals and current achievements here.
Thanks to TIPA’s proprietary blends of compostable polymers, our packaging mimics the great aspects of conventional plastics (transparency, durability, printability, machinability, barrier properties, shelf life & shelf stability), while having a significant sustainable advantage over conventional plastics: being fully compostable. You may read more about the technology behind TIPA’s materials here.
TIPA offers a variety of compostable films and laminates with different properties, suitable to pack fresh produce, dry foods, baked goods, frozen and chilled foods. At the moment, TIPA does not offer packaging solutions for liquids or very moist products since humidity is one of the parameters known to enhance the biodegradation process of compostable materials.
A growing number of companies are switching to compostable packaging to reduce plastic waste. Some of them, just like TIPA, are signatories of the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment.
TIPA provides high performance, custom-made, fully compostable packaging for food brands, retailers, growers, convertors and co-packers in Europe, North America, Australia and other regions. You may already know some of our customers, explore their success stories here

- What type of material are you looking to replace?
- What type of packaging do you need?
- What are the quantities you require?
- How do you pack your products?
If you require assistance in choosing the right compostable material and a packaging application that will serve your needs best, feel free to drop us a line – TIPA’s packaging experts will be happy to assist you in the process of going compostable!
Once you select relevant sustainable packaging, make sure that the supplier can prove their compostability claims by providing compostability certificates and other relevant documentations. For example, TIPA’s products are certified by TÜV Austria, Din Certco, BPI and ABA for industrial composting, or certified home compostable by TÜV Austria and ABA.
