Clear View Bag Co., Inc. is a family-owned and operated custom bag manufacturer and converter founded in 1961 by Don Strevell. Currently run by his grandsons Todd and Trent Romer, Clear View Bag is heading towards an increasingly sustainable packaging future in both the products they offer as well as their methods of manufacturing, with their intentions in advocating a healthy plant.
The company takes pride in offering its personal touch in every package created. Backed by years of research during which it experimented with over 10 different materials, Clear View Bag chose to work with TIPA’s compostable packaging to boost the credibility and authenticity of its sustainability ethos.
Clear View Bag has been working with TIPA for the last two years and is using TIPA 302 home compostable co-extruded high transparency film as a replacement to conventional flexible plastic-like polyethylene. The Romer brothers chose to work with this film because it is designed to mimic the qualities of plastic, runs easily on their existing machinery, and restocks easily. So far, they have replaced 15,000 lbs. of plastics by switching to TIPA 302 compostable film.
The decision to work with compostable packaging triggered curiosity from Clear View Bag’s consumers, “The interest in sustainable packaging has increased over the last 24 months. Roughly 20% of our inquiries are now asking for more sustainable options. Over time, those inquiries are turning into sales especially as more and more people become increasingly educated as to potential options and government mandates take hold, and TIPA’s support has been a big part of this effort.”
Clear View Bag has set a goal of trying to use materials from renewable or existing sources which have a defined end of life. They are also looking to make their journey toward sustainability as authentic as possible – taking internal waste reduction initiatives, repurposing materials, printing with water-based inks, participating in local cleanup efforts, and offering more sustainable materials for their clients to eventually move to a more sustainable direction altogether.
