Clothing that will last for years to come – packaging that will not

“Nearly fifteen years ago, we set out to create a foundational line of women’s clothing – but not at the expense of people or the environment. Sustainability is a journey. Our partnership with TIPA enabled us to discontinue the use of harmful plastic packaging – just one of the ways we’re doing our part to protect the environment.”

Apiece Apart Founders

Since 2019, Apiece Apart has used custom, branded TIPA compostable polybags as part of their ongoing sustainability efforts, and also to align their packaging experience with their customers’ desire for environmentally-conscious packaging solutions.

Apiece Apart is a line of foundation and statement pieces for women, designed to make getting dressed effortless. With multigenerational appeal, Apiece Apart conveys the intention of its founders, Laura Cramer and Starr Hout, who met in New York, to create a piece of clothing that’s a part of your life. Pieces that can be packed in a bag, to go anywhere and do anything. Pieces that are made to last for years to come.

At both the garment and packaging level, Apiece Apart seeks to find sustainable and innovative alternatives for plastic waste. Indeed, today, not only do customers demand sustainable packaging solutions, but some retailers have come to demand it too. Apiece Apart uses eco-friendly materials and certified fabrics that last longer and require less water and energy to produce (GOTS organic cotton, linen, Lenzing Tencel, Alpaca, GRS Certified yarns, and silk).

Since Apiece Apart started using TIPA’s compostable packaging, they have eliminated 133,825 conventional plastic polybags, placing them at the forefront of sustainability achievements. 100% of Apiece Apart garments are shipped in TIPA compostable bags. Through their design ethos and partnership with TIPA, Apiece Apart hopes to inspire customers to reevaluate and extend the life cycle of their garments and packaging elements.

Looking for an eco-friendly alternative to the traditional plastic polybag, and ideally a product that was compostable, Apiece Apart needed to fulfill two requirements:

  1. Provide the same level of protection from water, dust, and transportation that traditional polybags made of Polyethylene (PE) provide.
  2. Offer custom, branded polybags that maintain an elevated packaging experience.

Half of Apiece Apart employees are composters, so it’s no surprise that TIPA’s compostable bags were the right solution for their brand. They use TIPA’s 302 Resealable Bag – a flexible packaging solution – for its durability, sealability, printability and elegant look.

Inspired by women and hope for future generations, Apiece Apart designs pieces that will last for years to come–and they use packaging that will not (i.e. compostable).

Apiece Apart sells direct to consumers via their e-commerce site, as well as many online retailers including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Net-A-Porter, Shopbop, Intermix as well as boutiques in 35 states plus Washington D.C & internationally.
