Vital success story

Grupo Bimbo, the Biggest Baker in the World, chooses TIPA® for its compostable packaging.

“This is the first step we take as a company, globally, in the use of compostable packages through innovation.”

Daniel Servitje
Chairman and CEO for Grupo Bimbo

In 2018, Grupo Bimbo made a commitment to 100% sustainable packaging for Grupo’s entire product portfolio, transitioning away from conventional plastic packaging in lieu of reusable, recyclable, and compostable packaging to wrap the company’s several dozen product lines.

For Bimbo’s natural bread line ‘Bimbo Vital,’ the brand searched for a compostable packaging solution that would seamlessly replace their existing conventional plastic packaging. This required that the film be transparent, printable, run well on existing machinery for their fulfillment lines, and of course, maintain their product’s shelf-life. After a successful trial with TIPA® compostable packaging, Grupo Bimbo launched their first fully compostable product line in October 2019. “This achievement serves as motivation for Grupo Bimbo to continue seeking new solutions that can reduce the impact of plastic on our environment,” says Daniel Servitje, Chairman and CEO for Grupo Bimbo.

Grupo Bimbo chose open bags made from TIPA 302, TIPA®’s home compostable film for its flexibility, strength, transparency, and printability.
