Santini Cycling Wear was founded in 1965 by Pietro Santini who spotted a market for technical cycling clothing as a result of his passion for the sport and competition. The Bergamo-based company made the pivotal decision to design and manufacture all products exclusively in Italy. Each item is designed and developed by a designer team with deep-rooted passion for the two-wheel world, also with a large emphasis on sustainability. The company has consistently chosen fabric from suppliers in its local area Bergamo, and is committed to producing more of its output using recycled yarn. The kits Santini supplies to the Trek-Segafredo men’s and women’s professional teams, the official Granfondo Stelvio Santini jersey, and some of its 2021 summer collections all feature fabrics made from recycled and recovered waste materials.
“We needed a packaging that had to be light and protective of our garments but at the same time it needed to be transparent so that the product could be seen from the outside. We were searching for something eco-friendly packaging, we never thought about compostable but when we met with TIPA and they presented their products to us, we loved the idea immediately.”
Santini have been ongoingly making their business more sustainable for the past 10 years. Using highly technological cutting machines and specific software to reduce the fabric waste in production facilities. Also make sure fabrics and trims used for past collections are not forgotten. They, in fact, get re-used for creating those special price collections that are a big hit during the sales season. Moreover, over 85% of our fabric suppliers have their factories in Italy, within 100 kilometers from our production facility. 50% are less than 50 kilometers away. The most difficult part was turning the packaging sustainable and by June 2021 the entire Santini collection will be packaged using only TIPA materials – Eco friendly packaging for fashion.
Santini are using TIPA 302 compostable Resealable bags and TIPA 303 compostable Zipper bags for their products since the beginning of 2021. Santini’s cycling gear will all be in packaged with TIPA by June 2021.
